Publacion de Campos

2 november 2015 - Población de Campos, Spanje

As there were only pilgrims in the Albergue we could leave whenever we wanted. Philip was the first to go and the Australian couple followed. I left before nine. When Doug joined me he told me that the volunteer from last night showed up on her bike again just before he left. The sun was shining and we only had 8 km to go to the first pit stop. The path stretched before us, relatively flat but lonely. On both sides were fields. Some loaded with stones. In due course we reached the village. We had to pass a few restaurants before we found one that was actually open. Laetitia had left some underwear behind so I hoped we would see her so I could give it to her. They were about to leave the restaurant as we entered. We had our coffee and moved on again. Another 5 km to Fromista, our next stop. The path crossed a canal and after that we were walking along a nice creek. We haven't seen a lot of water on the way so far. In Fromista Doug went into the supermarket to buy some things for lunch. Guess who were there? Laetitia and Dokona. Doug and I found a bench in the shade on the main square next to the fountain where we enjoyed our lunch. From here it was another 4 km to our destination. The path was along side a new road. From the original path was nothing left. A bit boring. My two feet were really hurting. I could barely walk. However, there is no choice. You have to go forward. When we arrived I sat down on a stone wall while Doug went to scout out the Albergue. As luck would have it I was sitting right in front of it. When I took my boots off I could have another look at the blister. It had grown bigger and it had all kind of colours. It was not looking good. I went to bed and started to shiver. I developed a fever. Doug put two extra blankets on me to keep me warm. I took some ibprofen. After a while the fever went away and I felt better but decided to stay in bed. Laetitia, who speaks Spanish, had told the lady at the hotel next door about the blister. She advised to keep it breathing and clean. So Laetitia washed the blister and all night I was trying not to let it touch the sleeping bag. The others went for a nice meal in the hotel and I had a banana and some yoghurt. We decided to stay put for awhile. The next day Laetitia and Dokona said goodbye to us. We spent the day in front of the Albergue in the sun and had our dinner at the hotel at night. A total of nine young people from South Korea joined us that night. I told Doug I was going to quit the Camino as it seemed to me the plantar fasciitis was coming back. This morning Doug said he didn't want to go on without me. We moved next door to the hotel and tomorrow we're going to make our way to the Netherlands. This is my last blog report. Too bad
