Estella

1 oktober 2015 - Estella, Spanje

I'm currently three days behind. So I start to write these first and then I'll send some pictures.
Before 8 am we were out of the hostel and on the way. We lost our way and arrived at the same spot where we entered the little town yesterday. Fortunately three Americans came to our rescue and they guided us out in no time. We kept walking with then for a little while. We walked over an road which was built by the Romans and crossed a bridge from the same time. After about 5 km we enjoyed our first cup of coffee. Another five km along the road which was going up and down by the way, we came across a box with walnuts and hazelnuts. A sign said in Spanish that the pilgrims were welcome to help themselves. Even a big stone was provided. We took a few for on the way. In the centre of the village stood the church and this one was open. We went inside and admired the beautiful altar piece. On we went.
On top of another hill was a little chapel in a field with olive trees. Tranquil is the right word here. We continued our route to Estella, a beautiful middle aged town. We first passed an old cathedral and next to it the remains of a monastery.
There was a hostel almost next door and we chose our beds in the dormitory. After a shower we took our food in the garden and had our lunch. Doug went to wash some clothes and I sewed my little backpack together again as some stitching became undone as I was putting too much in it in Barcelona.
We wandered through the town and ended in the supermarket where we bought our food for that night.
Back in the hostel I had a reflexology treatment. Very nice! I could feel the energy going through my body.
After cooking and eating a delicious meal with a bottle of red wine and a coffee we went upstairs to read a bit in bed.
