Viana

Another day on the Camino. We had to leave the hostel by 8:30am but the cleaners almost swept us outside. Doug was the last to leave while I was waiting for him in the little garden. The sun was out again but it was still cool. Our route took us past vineyards, olive groves, walnut and almond trees. This time of year is a good time to travel because everything is ripe for the picking. We had our lunch under an almond tree. You just need a stone to crush the shell and there is the almond! While we were having our lunch Linda, from the Netherlands and the young man from Roumenia joined us. Then on we went to Viana. We stayed in the municipal hostel this time which was situated next to the ruin of the cathedral. They have lots of cathedrals and churches in this country but this was the first ruin we came across. After checking in and the shower we walked around the town a bit. On the square in front of another big church we had something to drink. Joel from the VS joined us for a bit. In front of this church you can find the tombstone of Cesare Borgia who perished here while leading his army to battle. We did some shopping for our dinner and prepared it in the kitchen of the hostel. When we were enjoying our coffee Marijke, a Dutch woman joined us. She is planning to start her own hostel in Curacao, a Caribbean island.
